File Your Taxes for Free

The IRS Free File Program is a public-private partnership between the IRS and many tax preparation and filing software industry leaders who provide their brand-name products for free. It provides two ways for taxpayers to prepare and file their federal income tax online for free:

  • Traditional IRS Free File provides free online tax preparation and filing options on IRS partner sites. Our partners are online tax preparation companies that develop and deliver this service at no cost to qualifying taxpayers. Please note, only taxpayers whose adjusted gross income (or AGI) is $72,000 or less qualify for any IRS Free File partner offers.
  • Free File Fillable Forms are electronic federal tax forms you can fill out and file online for free. If you choose this option, you should know how to prepare your own tax return. Please note, it is the only IRS Free File option available for taxpayers whose income (AGI) is greater than $72,000.

IRS certified volunteers provide this free service by partnering with VITA sites to provide tax filing assistance to families earning less than $66,000 a year.

Trained, IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and double-check your tax return to make sure it is correct before filing.

 Free Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program through United Way of Kenosha County, Kenosha County Job Center and community partners, provides free, quality tax preparation from IRS-certified preparers to individuals and families earning up to $57,000 annually.

Our VITA program helps taxpayers access qualifying tax credits such as Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax credit, the Wisconsin Homestead Credit and more.

Let VITA help you file your taxes for free.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national program staffed by local volunteers to provide free preparation and electronic filing of tax returns. It’s an important service to thousands of individuals and families in Racine County with low-to-moderate incomes who are eligible for tax credits.
