The Arboretum includes the oldest and most varied collection of restored ecological communities in the world, including tallgrass prairies, savannas, several forest types and wetlands.

The purpose of this museum and website is to care for living plant, artifact and archival collections and makes them available for exhibition and research. Includes the Archives of American Gardens, Garden History Timeline, Tree Collection, Orchid Collection, and the Gardens Furnishings and Artifacts Collection.

Hawthorn Hollow combines nature, history and horticulture. Two miles of nature trails wind through the woods of the Pike River Valley introducing visitors to the wildlife refuge, original prairie, restored prairie, perennial gardens, a butterfly garden, a dwarf conifer collection and a twelve-acre arboretum. We also have the new book, Just wild land : the story of Hawthorn Hollow nature sanctuary and arboretum (Kenosha General Collection SD 420 S3.92 2012) that documents the history of this park.

The over 400-acre Chiwaukee Prairie is the most species-rich prairie in Wisconsin and includes four walking trails.

Study sites on the campus open to the public include the Alice Moody Chapin Arboretum and the Phil Sanders Audubon Cooperative Wildlife Sanctuary
