The Gateway Technical College Libraries are dedicated to academic freedom, intellectual freedom, and equitable access to information. We exemplify these principles through our services, collection development, and policies. We are guided in our philosophy and practices by the American Library Association (ALA) Library Bill of Rights, ALA Code of Ethics, and ALA’s Freedom to Read Statement. As stated in the ALA Code of Ethics, the Gateway Libraries “...uphold the principle of intellectual freedom and resist all efforts to censor library resources” in our libraries and the communities we serve. In accordance with ALA’s Intellectual Freedom Principles for Academic Libraries: An Interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights the Gateway Libraries, provide “equal access to information for all in the academic community with no discrimination on the basis of race, age, values, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural or ethnic background, physical, sensory, cognitive or learning disability, economic status, religious beliefs, or views.”
